Hyun Yi Lee Editorial for Korea Vogue, August 2008

This dark and interesting editorial from Korea Vogue, August 2008 has an eerie feel to it, perfect for the upcoming Halloween holiday. It also looks like an Icelandic widow mourning for her late husband whose boat went missing after a dark storm -- so apropo for the economic crisis in Iceland now.

Korea Vogue should have saved this for their October 2008 issue, in my opinion.

Zarina Editorial for New York Magazine, August 2008

According to Models.com, newbie model Zarina is of Mongolian descent and speaks fluent Russian. She is currently signed with Muse Agency in NYC. Personally, I think it is exciting to see an Asian model from other countries aside from China, Japan or South Korea. Of course, there are also Asian models from US, Canada, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Another Asian face with an interesting origin/lineage is Eugenia Manzhieva who is of Manchurian descent and Russian nationality, as is fellow Russian model, Dinara Chetyrova. Then there is Irina Pantaeva who was one of the most visible Asian faces in the 1990s. She is of Eskimo/Mongolian mix from Russian too.

Brazil, with its huge ethnic Chinese and Japanese population, has also spawned some familar Asian faces like Juliana Imai, Aline Nakashima and Aline Serpa.

Philip Huang for Macy's Catalog, August 2008

Philip Huang is probably the top Asian male model working in the international scene today. Unfortunately, the visibility of Asian male models has not caught up to the popularity of the female counterpart. Nonetheless, it is refreshing to see him still working even if it is for Macy's.

Emma Pei Editorial for China Vogue, August 2008

Sometimes Emma Pei can look a little too young for high fashion editorials but this set (it is incomplete, I'm missing 2 photos) is simply spectacular. The makeup and hair are top notch. The set is stunning -- the narrow passage way created by the walls really work here. It adds a lot to the drama and the mood of the clothes, hair and makeup. All in all, a job well done.

Is this "Mickey Mouse ear" thing a new trend in hair fashion? I have seen quite a few of them in editorials lately. It is definitely different and high fashion but probably not very practical for every day life

Also, this is undoubtedly the BEST editorial Emma Pei has done to date. And one of the best from China Vogue.

Eugenia Mandzhieva in Nordstrom Catalog, August 2008

Eugenia Mandzhieva has two 'stories' or editorials in this month's Nordstrom catalog. The first set is spectacular, especially the close-up in photo #1. The hair and makeup in photos #2 and #3 are simply amazing. They remind me of Angelina Jolie in the St. John ads from two seasons ago. Incidentally, Eugenia was wearing a St. John (ahem! Chanel knock-off) in one of the photos.

The second editorial is so-so -- typical catalog stuff. I like her Rihanna style hair cut. It looks great on her. Eugenia has just become one of my favorite Asian models.

Stay tuned for more of Eugenia Mandzhieva's work on AMB.

Han Jin, Daul Kim & Hyun Yi Lee Editorial for Korea Harper's Bazaar, August 2008

An interesting editorial from Korea Harper's Bazaar, August 2008. The clothes are fabulous. The hair and makeup are gorgeous. But what's with the sour face? Seriously, the girls looked like they would rather be somewhere else. I mean, Daul Kim and Hyun Yi Lee looked positively miserable and Han Jin just looked bored out of her mind.

What gives? The editorial is called Arty-Fall Romance, not I Don't Want To Be Here. Did the sitting editor or stylist dropped the ball on this one? Or was it intentional? If so, what is the editorial trying to say?

Do you have an opinion on this?
