Du Juan Editorial for Italian Vogue, September 2006

I found this beautiful editorial of Du Juan for Italian Vogue, September 2006 shot by Peter Lindbergh in Las Vegas. At first glance, I thought it was done by Laurie Bartley whose photos are always saturated with intense colors.

Du Juan looks amazing here, especially in Photo 1. She does that pout better than anyone else in the business. Being the #1 Asian model in the world, Du Juan has done it all...well, almost. She has appeared in ad campaigns for some of the best designers in the world. Her first major ad campaign was for YSL in Spring/Summer 2006 shot by Juergen Teller. That was followed the next season with three major ad campaigns for Louis Vuitton (shot by Mert & Marcus), Roberto Cavalli, and Swarovski. Along the way, she added more appearances to her coffers for mass retailers like GAP, JCrew and Benetton. Then in Fall 2008/Winter 2009, she scored another trifecta of campaigns with appearances in Giorgio Armani, David Yurman and H&M.

In terms of magazine covers, she is the first and only Asian model to have graced the cover of Paris Vogue (October 2005). On top of that, there are dozens of other covers for Vogue (China, Taiwan), Harper's Bazaar (Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia), Elle (Hong Kong, Singapore, China), L'Officiel (Hong Kong), Marie Claire (China), French Revue de Modes, French Jalouse and many more that I haven't documented here. What next? Will Anna Wintour have the guts to put Du Juan on the cover of US Vogue? Will Italian Vogue be doing an ALL ASIAN issue?

But with Liu Wen, the up-and-coming Chinese model nipping at her heels, Du Juan days as the top Chinese model may be numbered. But she has paved the way for many more Asian models to take her place.

love it, very sophisticated. feel like a movie, love Du Juan and love Peter Lindbergh. I think this is better than he photographed Maggie Cheung for Italian Vogue Jun 2008.
good job

Oh yes, Du Juan seems has a lot of magazine covers but, recently her career seems bit decline due to newbie like Liu Wen and others.

Speaking of newbie...She seems to take Du's place but, too early to tell, though.

Oh my gosh, speak of "you know the devil wears Prada".....She knows what she is doing. After all, that's her job. I wish I can read her mind, lol.

All Asian issue?...Hmm.....That doesn't enter my mind since There already has Vogue China and Korea which usually has used Asian models in these magazines.

Black models is entirely different story since there don't have their own magazine cover, for example, Vogue South Africa or Jamaica?...

That's why, in the West isn't exactly keen on the idea of used these Black models in these magazines, though.

Hmm...who knows?

Let's just see if Liu Wen can bring the Asian models up to another level and topping Du Juan's magnificent success, like how Du Juan did by scoring so many campaigns and making history to being the first Asian model on Paris Vogue & Time Magazine...

Nice editorial. I tried have her come by for a go-see but our schedules never were in synch. As I can see she's been quite a busy lady.

I think it would a great idea to have an ALL ASIAN issue of Vogue or Marie Claire for that matter.
It can showcase Asian Models & talent showcasing
designer fashion (Yoji Yamamoto, Monique Lhullier, Josie Natori, Zaldy, etc. Asian Make-Up Artists, Hair Stylists too).

seems bit decline?u mean just on runway?
even in her peak time she just do only 30-40shows she's not remarkatable on runway as hye & han
everyone says she's fading after s/s 07 but how she always brings surprise back
it's not too early to say replace
cuz there's not replace

ai hye du they'r the"only"

Doing good on the runway does not equate to success. See Han.

And Du is kinda odd, she started kinda weak, then super strong, then really faded, and out of nowhere booked Armani, Yurman and H&M plus editorials in W, Allure, etc.

Hye may be declining though, but she's been strong for a few years and never saw the decline that Du saw (from cavalli/d&g to h&m/gap/ dolce to paciotti to maxmara/tiffany). We shall see though. As a whole, only Liu Wen did great this season.

i just came back from guangzhou china and bought tons of vogue chinese as usual, the mag used to have Du conquer every single page but now I see loads of Liu Wen...

I would say Liu Wen's asian features are softer while Du has a certain haute couture look... Well, let's just be happy that there has been at least one of two asian models in most shows this season?
