MAC ad campaign has been totally off, ever since with that OLD MADAME marketing thing they had??? however, i must say that eugenia is the perfect model to do this tribal look on because she does have some african features, which are move evident when they bronzed her so much. i thikn her face looks great overall.
This is totally wrong. Why would MAC use Asian model for an African tribal theme and try to make an ASIAN MODEL look African. What's wrong with using African model and accentuate their natural beauty, instead of faking it. This is a slap on the face. Asian model has a different features and should be appreciated equally. This is almost like the old days where white models would be on cosmetics Ad for all Asian countries and impose the standard upon Asian female to look like a white person. There is something fundamentally wrong with this Ad.
I don't think they went for the African warrior theme, it's more of a 'global' theme. And that's why this picture is bang on the money, because they styled Eugenia as the ultimate mix of all global races! Great job!!
If this is a global theme, why do they have to bronzed her (As Anon#1 mentioned) and gave her a fake afro inspired hair-do. And please don't get me started on the accessories. I don't feel global at all, this Ad obviously has a heavy African tribal influence in it. The high cheek bone and thick lips are prominent features of those who are African descents. Eugenia features are close to that. That's why i am scratching my head to think why they are not using an African Model instead.
Read tagline. Glamorous Globe. New Style Warrior. Cross Cultural Sophistication. Amazon Princess, Africa Queen and Crouching Tigress. Eugenia has such a unique global look that this fits her. Just because they put an afro on her doesnt mean this is supposed to be JUST african. Have u ever seen how an Aztec princess look like? Eugenia is also from Russia, like Irena, and her look is somewhat oriental but she is not 100% asian either. She's globally chic.
Calm down. Go get a seat and some ice cold drinks. I think the heat is getting to you.
Aztec women looks nothing like what is portrayed above. With the experiences of designing tribal inspired collections. I have done enough homework on this to know the elements that are used in the shot, and not just from the tagline that people wants to make you to believe. It is also has nothing to do with the model herself. I always like Eugenia and think she is one of the better Asian model around. Rather it is about the content of the Ad that concerns me. Take out the tittle and words. All i see here is an Asian Girl trying to look African. Trust me, if they really want to do Global Chic. There are million way to execute this and find inspiration from other Tribal groups and not just heavily rely on the obvious.
BTW, FND. What other race do you think have Afro Hair besides African and Afro-mixed race individual :) They don't call Afro for no reason. The other race that could have a fro is Jews. but i don't think that's what the Ad is about for obvious reason.
