After scoring a spot on the inaugural cover of Vogue India in October 2007, followed closely by the Spring/Summer 2008 ad campaign for Hermes, Lakshmi Menon's career has been fast-tracked to the top of the international scene. Her next one-two punch included a spectacular solo cover on Vogue India, April 2008 and a major ad campaign for Givenchy, Fall 2008/Winter 2009.
Ford Agency signed her up right before the start of the Fall 2008/Winter 2009 Fashion Week in NYC and the next thing we knew, Lakshmi was opening the couture show at Givenchy in Paris. Carine Roitfeld took notice and quickly added Lakshmi to her stable of models in Vogue Paris.

only the first pic seems okay to me
ReplyDeleteI don't know what "Afro Disiaque" is in English but maybe Vogue Paris was trying to "pass her off" as African because of the color of her skin.
ReplyDeletei heard she is 27?
ReplyDeleteShe is not the only girl in this shoot, she was in it with Yasmin Warsame. Afrodisiac means something else that is not even related to being black or African. It just so happen that Yasmin is African (I think) and Lakshmi is dark skinned. So we might put two and two together. For me it as more about the new definition of chic sensuality through the eyes of Carine Roitfeld. These are not fragile women. These are self assured looking models not teenage girls. So being 28 and hot has everything to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI salute the use of actual women instead of young girls to portray an ode to Women's Fashion Fantasy.
Afrodisiac - Something that stimulates desire or arousal. I think its a perfect title. Dont read in too deep.
ReplyDeleteCarine Roifeld made smart choice to picked Lakshmi for her editorial issue in Vogue Paris.
ReplyDeleteAwesome hair, cool clothes, and edgy looks!
Yasmin Wassame is 32 and she is from Samolia by way of Canada. I am very happy that Lakshmi is geting mainstream love.

ReplyDeleteAfrodisiac has nothing to do with being black, god indians would die if someonne called them black lol and Lakshmi still looks like a man to me
ReplyDeleteSounds like some people here are confusing "aphrodisiac" with AFROdisiac. The later is obviously a play on the word and the "afro" hairstyle has everything to do with being black.
ReplyDeletethere is another top indian model called monikonkona datta taking part in the paris s/s 2009 shows.she took part in the kris van assche show but they mis-spelt her name as kangana.this is the link.think shes gonna be big as well
